I was visiting the factory at the same time John Warr was on his first mechanics school visit and the retro application of these changes was part of his course - I chatted with him and other mechanics in the evening and there was a lot of enthusiasm for these changes. If you are a fan of "if it ain't broke don't fix it" (many of us are) then as Kiwi said in the old thread the changes weren't needed but what HD wanted to deal with was the shovels low oil mileage, the changes in company with oil seal valve guides often doubled the oil mileage as well as a claimed cleaner running motor (plugs, seats). The oil comes out of the other fitting on the pump and goes through the oil filter. The lowest oil line on the bottom of the tank goes to the feed side of the oil pump. Nick, that detail is quite helpful and does make sense, if the entry (feed) front head is still larger and the exit rear head is made a bit smaller then, if my clumsy understanding of science is right, that would make a venturi effect that would draw oil in quicker (yes? no?).
